Procida, an intimate haven in the Gulf of Naples

Procida, will be the italian cultural capital for this 2022. The island is the smallest of the three islands in the Gulf of Naples. It’s basically pretty flat left aside the cliff of Terra Murata, 90 metres above sea level, where you can find an old medieval stronghold. I made my return on the island after so many years thanks to this event. Procida is pretty close to the mainland being located, as it is, between the coast of Pozzuoli and the sister island, Ischia. It is pretty close in terms of distance, but it sets apart in terms of lifestyle. Here life rolls slow and local people still live out of fishing, not so different from the past. I was here for the Easter celebrations, here a must, with a colorful procession on the Holy Friday. The island of Arthur, from the famous novel by Elsa Morante has definitely change since then, but are subtle changes which didn’t affect the quality of life. I hope to stimulate your curiosity with the following pictures enough to let you board the ferry or hydrofoil to stroll around places that have been filmed in many movies. Like “Il Postino” with Philippe Noiret and Massimo Troisi in his last film. Right after, or better, during the end of the making of, he died of a stroke.
